Discover botanical art as you’ve never seen it before, as Monumental Botanical Art arrives at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery.

This new exhibition, presented in Gallery 6, brings together works from the renowned Shirley Sherwood Collection and invites you to explore the intricate detail of plants through striking scaled-up pieces. From Úrsula Romero’s iconic 'leafscapes' to Lucy T. Smith’s giant waterlily painting, each artwork reveals the beauty, complexity and structure of the natural world in extraordinary ways.

Visitors will experience botanical art in a completely new way. This exhibition reimagines botanical art – which is traditionally associated with small, intimate studies – in a monumental way, which encourages deeper engagement with the finer, often overlooked details of plants.

This exhibition also runs at the same time as the gallery exhibition for Henry Moore: Monumental Nature, which showcases 90 of Moore’s smaller-scale works. Just as Moore led sculpture towards new, monumental form, these contemporary botanical artists expand the boundaries of their practice, reshaping how we see and experience nature.

While you’re at the Gallery, discover three paintings by this year’s Shirley Sherwood Award winner, Thai artist Phansakdi Chakkaphak, also on display.

To help prepare for your visit and keep our artworks safe for all to enjoy, please explore our gallery guidelines in our useful information section on the Shirley Sherwood Gallery page.
