Everything you need to know about new memberships and child pricing at Wakehurst
Membership options at Wakehurst are growing – learn what's new and explore some of the most frequently asked questions.
From 1 May 2026, we're introducing a new family membership and a new joint membership alongside our existing single adult membership. We'll also be introducing a new child ticket for day visits.
Membership changes
From 1 May, we'll offer a range of memberships to help you find the right one for you.
If you choose to pay by Direct Debit, you can save £5 on whichever membership you're purchasing. It's secure, easy to set up and involves less admin for the Kew membership team – hence the saving.
Please note: children under five enter Wakehurst for free.
Adult membership
For one adult
£40 per year by Direct Debit. £45 by non-Direct Debit
Joint Adult membership
For two adults living at the same address
£70 per year by Direct Debit. £75 by non-Direct Debit
Family membership (1 adult and 4 children)
For one adult and up to four children aged 5–16

Family membership (2 adults and 4 children)
For two adults living at the same address and up to four children aged 5–16
£85 per year by Direct Debit. £90 by non-Direct Debit
You can also choose a Wakehurst plus membership, meaning you can enjoy all the benefits of a membership, with a top-up donation of £15 to support our vital work to fight climate change and biodiversity loss.
These new memberships will be available to purchase or upgrade to from 1 May. You'll be able to do this either online or at the Visitor Centre from this date onwards.
If you're already a Wakehurst member, you'll still be able to bring your children for free until the end of your existing membership term. After this, we recommend upgrading to a family membership if you visit with children so everyone can enjoy year-round access and benefits. If you change or upgrade to an Adult or Joint Adult membership and want to bring a child between 5 - 16, you will have to purchase a child ticket each time you visit.
Wakehurst is part of Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, a charity using the science of plants and fungi to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss. We value our members immensely. Thanks to your regular support we can continue to expand our vital work for the planet and it’s future.

Wakehurst is part of Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – we're a world-leading science, horticulture, conservation and education charity, using the science and wonder of plants and fungi to create lasting solutions for nature, communities and livelihoods worldwide.
Wakehurst’s gardens and landscapes are a sanctuary to rare plants from across the globe, we're home to the Millennium Seed Bank – the world’s largest wild plant seed store – and we're a living laboratory where scientists are finding solutions to some of humanity’s biggest environmental challenges.
Your membership is vital to helping us create a thriving planet for all, powered by plants and fungi.
We recognise that a single adult membership doesn’t suit all visitors, so we're expanding our membership options to enable more visitors to make the most of being a member and all the benefits that come with membership.
With the introduction of child tickets for children aged 5–16, we appreciate that a family membership is an affordable way for all the family to enjoy Wakehurst.
Since 2020, we've invested in our diverse landscape and gardens and facilities to offer an engaging place for families to connect with nature. Whether you love energetic adventures in wild spaces or prefer more tranquility, no two visits are the same. There is always something new to see, do, and learn every day, whatever your age!
- Adventure across Wakehurst with our family Explorer map and enjoy our natural play spaces, such as Tree Trunk Trek, Labyrinth, Wild Wood, Children's Garden and Mud Kitchen. For quiet, indoor time, become a budding seed scientist in the Millennium Seed Bank or relax in our Mansion reading area and cafes with child-friendly menus.
- Take advantage of buggy-friendly paths and special routes for your dogs.
- Enjoy our summer events and new family trails throughout the year, plus our award‑winning Glow Wild winter lantern trail – with early twilight slots and SEN sessions.
If you visit more than once a year you start saving with a membership. We've aimed to keep our prices low, so an upgrade from a single adult membership to a Family membership (1 adult and 4 children) is £15 more a year. And this includes four extra family members (children aged 5 - 1) to visit for free.
You'll still be able to bring your children for free until the end of your existing membership term. After this, we recommend upgrading to a family membership if you visit with children so everyone can enjoy year-round access and benefits.
If you change to an Adult or Joint Adult membership and want to bring a child between 5 - 16, you will have to purchase a child ticket each time you visit.
Access to green spaces is a priority for us. We're committed to reducing barriers to visiting through the following initiatives:
- £1 ticket entry to all on Universal and Pension credit
- Affordable Community Access Scheme for organisations who support individuals facing physical, sensory, psychological or social barriers to visiting independently
- Half-price for car-free travel, young people 17–25, and adults visiting after 3.30pm
Gift memberships will be available for all four of our membership options. These can be purchased either online or at the Visitor Centre.
